UPDATE: 7:10 p.m Golden-Field RCMP have confirmed two people have died following a head-on collision Sunday morning along Highway 1. At 6:50 am on Sunday, Golden-Field RCMP, BC Highway Patrol and Emergency Services responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks on Highway 1 at the west gate of Yoho National Park, about 35 kilometers east of Golden. Upon arrival, the occupants of both involved semi-trucks were found to be deceased. Police confirm one semi was transporting cattle and one was transporting timber. Although the investigation is still ongoing, it appears that one of the trucks ran into oncoming traffic and caused a head-on collision. “The deceased parties have not yet been identified and the BC Coroner Service has taken over the conduct of the investigation, with the assistance of the Golden-Field RCMP and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service,” said Cst./Gend. Kat Robinson. Highway 1 will remain closed overnight and into Monday as the investigation continues. “There is an alternate route via highways 95 and 93 at this time. Check Drive BC for updates,” Cst. added Robinson Anyone with information about this collision, including any dash cam video, is asked to contact the Golden-Field RCMP at 250-344-2221.
