By Samantha Lawson Posted August 28, 2022 at 7:18 pm Scattered thunderstorms on Monday (August 29) bring winds of up to 110 km/h and a chance of hail for residents of Mississauga and Brampton. Environment and Climate Change Canada expects fairly strong storms to sweep across the region tomorrow, bringing the risk of localized flooding, flying loose objects and scattered lightning. Organized areas of thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday afternoon and evening. These storms have the potential to become severe with wind gusts between 90 and 110 km/h and a chance of toonie size hail. Environment Canada says, “While the risk is lower than previously predicted, a single tornado cannot be completely ruled out.” Strong gusts of wind can blow loose objects, destroy weak buildings, break branches from trees as well as uproot trees. Large hail can damage property, vehicles and crops. Localized flooding in low-lying areas and water accumulation on roads are also possible. Power outages may occur as well as scattered lightning. The rest of the week remains wet until Thursday (September 1). Tuesday has a 70 percent chance of rain with a high of 27 degrees Celsius. Wednesday is expected to see a high of 24. And then on Thursday it will have a mix of sun and clouds with a maximum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. Rain earlier in the week is followed by a cold front, dropping the low to 9C on Thursday night. insauga Editorial Standards and Policies
