UPDATE: 4:15 p.m The search continues for a missing person who fell into Okanagan Lake on Friday and never resurfaced. Central Okanagan Search and Rescue says the man entered the water from a watercraft just after 5pm in the McKinley Landing area. COSAR has spent the past three days searching the water and nearby shore, but has yet to find the man. “We raced some areas of the network last night and are searching them right now and everything seems to be going as it should,” said COSAR director Duane Tresnich. COSAR members use an underwater camera and sonar to search the bottom of the lake. “The way we use it the waves and the wind don’t move it as much as they used to,” Tresnich added. The person could be the 10th person to drown this summer in the Thompson Okanagan. “The number of drownings this summer has been quite high, unusually high I would say, and so it’s very concerning to us because we’re the ones who go out and assist the RCMP in recovering these individuals.” The missing person is a tourist who was visiting the area. COSAR currently has 12 members assisting in the search. “You’ll notice our search boat has a blue flashing light, an emergency light, so we ask people when they see that to stay away from our boat or RCMP or fire boats because they all have one of those ,” Tresnich added. COSAR also reminds the public to swim and boat responsibly and wear a life jacket at all times.
