A neuroscientist has revealed the five things everyone should do to protect their brain. Cody Isabel, 26, of Kansas City, Missouri, regularly posts videos on his TikTok channel sharing neuroscience tips with more than 122,000 followers. In a video, which has over 1.3 million views, Cody shared the five things he would never do as a neuroscientist. He told his followers to “prioritize” five areas of their lives “instead of ignoring them” and promised they would see changes in their mental health, physical health and overall lifestyle in just 30 days.
Don’t lose your sleep
First on the list of things she would never do is “mess up” his sleep schedule. “Less sleep equals less life,” he explains. He then notes that sleep reduces inflammation in the brain caused by “everyday trauma.” Research shows that continuous sleep deficits can significantly affect the brain. Studies have shown that sleep deprivation can hinder learning, impair cognitive performance, and slow reaction time.
Think
Cody encouraged his followers to meditate as he never misses a meditation session. ‘[Meditation] it’s an easy way to calm your mind, reduce stress, reduce depression and reduce inflammation in your brain,” he says. He added that meditating 10 minutes a day improves your overall quality of life.
Reduce your alcohol intake
The third thing the neuroscientist said was that he would never drink alcohol. “Alcohol fires up your brain immediately and depresses you,” he notes. Both short-term and long-term heavy drinking can have negative effects on your brain. Heavy, long-term drinking can lead to learning and memory problems and even lead to the development of mental health conditions.
Stay active
“I would never be so busy that I couldn’t work out or work out,” the neuroscientist told followers. He also added that exercising or staying active releases BDNF, which reduces brain fog and increases your ability to learn.
Be decisive
Cody admitted that the last thing he would ever do was “let indecision take hold [him] back’. “Our brain is made to decide things, to act [on] things and we learn through failure,” he said at the end of his video. He also added that he learns through “action, access, adaptation.” Cody promised his followers that if they prioritized these five things they could “heal” their brains.

I appreciate. Adapt. This is so helpful. I’m an analysis paralyser. Fail forward. I love it,” added another.
