Steinbach RCMP received a 911 call around 10:50 p.m. Sunday about a vehicle hitting a deer on Provincial Road 302, five kilometers south of La Broquerie, the news release said. While a female passenger was speaking to police, the male driver answered her phone and advised her that everything was fine. When questioned by the 911 operator, the driver became aggressive and hung up, police said. When officers arrived at the scene, a 62-year-old woman got out of the car and told them there was no collision and that she had been assaulted by the male driver. During his arrest, a 36-year-old man became combative and punched both officers before being restrained, RCMP said. He was taken to hospital for injuries sustained during his arrest and released back into custody. The two officers were also taken to hospital for their injuries and released. The 36-year-old from Vita, Man., was charged with assault, aggravated assault, menacing and resisting arrest. More from CBC Manitoba:
