According to the Minnesota State Fair’s twitter account, the parking lots were full as early as 10:30 Friday morning. Spectators said they are doing their best for the exhibition. “We came in with a little bit of patience because we know what it’s been like in previous years, but every year it’s still a surprise,” said state fair participant Quinn Ridden. Attendees say they navigate parking lots and back up traffic. “We parked back there and drove around for a while and finally made it here. We’re almost there,” Riden said. Attendees said finding a way to get to the Minnesota State Fair is half the battle. “It’s very busy. This will be one of the busiest fairs ever,” said Twin Town Pedicab driver Richard White. White’s pedicab remains full. He drives up and down streets near the fairgrounds to pick up riders. “They are happy to see us. You can park for $40 down there or you can park for free there and drive up for $20 or $30 and we get them to the gate,” White said. Some viewers forgo driving and use a bus to get to the fair. Metro Transit offers express bus service to the fair. Like last year, there are only three pick-up locations in the metro. The company said they are unable to add stops across the region due to a prolonged shortage of bus drivers. Some participants choose a different route – the free park and ride option. Attendees can choose from more than 30 locations in the Twin Cities to board a bus and drop off steps away from the fair. If you decide to drive to the state fair, prepare your appetite and patience. “Take an Advil and an energy drink,” said state fair attendee Duranda Torkelson. “You have to come in the right frame of mind to know what you’re dealing with.” State Fair attendees also benefit from rideshare. Drop-off locations are also steps away from the state fair gates. Fairgoers are facing a difficult parking situation at the Minnesota State Fair (KSTP).
