“I would really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my boy phase. I love this girl life,” Brittany wrote earlier this week, on Aug. 23, as the caption of a before-and-after makeup video to Beyoncé’s 2006 song “Upgrade U,” (even though Beyoncé is known to be an LGBTQ+ ally community). Husband Jason left a laughing emoji in the comments and replied, “Lmao!! I’m glad they didn’t because you and I wouldn’t have made it.” In a more candid statement via Instagram Stories on Friday (August 26), Brittany expanded on her unsolicited thoughts on transgender youth and their rights to gender-affirming care: “Supporting child genital mutilation in disguise of love and calling it “gender-affirming care” is one of the worst evils. I will always support my children and do everything I can to protect their innocence,” she wrote. “The other day Memphis wanted to be a dinosaur and tomorrow Navy wants to be a cat. They are children. Some parents want to be accepted by society so much that they are willing to make life-changing decisions for their children who are not old enough to fully understand the consequences of those actions. Love is protecting your child until he is mature enough as an adult to make his own decisions about his life. I’m thankful that my parents allowed me to go through my boy phase without changing my gender.”

But elsewhere, country stars hit out at Brittany Aldean. “You would think that celebrities with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging. But instead here we are, hearing someone compare the “tomboy phase” to someone wanting to transition. Very cool,” Cassadee Pope tweeted on Friday (August 26) in reaction to Brittany’s posts. Maren Morris responded to Pope’s tweet in agreement, writing: “Is it that easy to not be a straight man? Sell your clip-ins and zip it up, Insurrection Barbie.” At that point, conservative Candace Owens decided to join their conversation, replying: “It’s easier not to castrate your children. But I guess anything helps sell bad records.” Morris replied: “God, not you. My Grammy is positively crying right now. Also, why do you always go to “castration” and “pedophiles” to try to close an argument? It’s frankly worrying and worth looking into.” Here, Perez Hilton also shouted: “Where is child castration happening[ing]? Because I don’t know of any doctor who does this gender confirmation surgery on minors in America,” she pointed out. On Instagram, Morris continued to talk about Brittany Aldean with Pope: “You know, I’m glad it’s not a boy because we really don’t need another dude in the world. It sucks when the Karens try to hide their homophobia/transphobia behind their “child protection”. Weren’t they putting their kids in “Biden-is-a-pedo” shirts on social media? Sounds like a really safe way to protect them from millions of eyes! F— up to Insurrection Barbie and IB trolling this comment section with hypocrisy, hate them.” Morris also responded to comments from others, including one Twitter user who found the singer’s reaction “confused” and told her to “put the phone down and focus on the guitar.” Morris replied: “If you’re confused, it’s because you think we’re ‘fighting’ about politics. It was not. This is not political. We call someone out for being transphobic and they think it’s hilarious. Is not.” On Morris’ Instagram Stories on Saturday, she shared a video of herself thanking her fans for their support while suggesting they redirect their efforts to those who likely needed more support than her after seeing Brittany Aldean’s post. “You were all so sweet and supportive today to me and Cassadee,” Morris noted. “I will say we can handle this. We’ve been dealing with idiots, you know, for years telling us crazy stupid things. But I would say check your trans friends. Check your gay friends. Anyone in country music who had to look at these bulls—today and feel subhuman. Check your friends.” “I’m so sick of looking at absolute horses — on the Internet and people getting away with it, much less celebrating them,” Morris said. Morris’ husband, fellow artist Ryan Heard, also reassured her followers on Twitter that she was fine but would continue to talk: “Having so many people telling me our career is over, like the last time she talked about something that disappeared. . Honestly, we’re pretty good here. Touring is good, we have a 2 year old who we love, we get along and I promise he won’t shut up now… Scoring quick points by picking on trans kids is not brave at all . And I’m proud of Maren for supporting them. A badge of honor for the CO to engage in completely normal dialogue, too. Shut up and sing only applies to those you disagree with.” Check out Brittany’s original post and reactions from Morris, Pope and others below.
