4:08 p.m. PT — Sydney has weighed in on the controversy, writing… “Guys, this is crazy. An innocent celebration of my mother’s 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Stop Making Assumptions . With lots of love to all ❤️ and Happy Birthday Mom!” Sydney Sweeney took a photo to celebrate her mum’s birthday, but it’s backfired – because people think she’s showing her true colours… what they perceive as red. The “Euphoria” actress dropped a bunch of shots on Saturday on IG, showing her and her family celebrating her mother Lisa’s 60th birthday. They were holding the shindig at some sort of ranch, and the theme is hoedown inspired… with everyone rocking cowboy hats and boots. It seems relatively innocuous — but some of her fans are decrying the put-off vibe, especially when it comes to some people’s attire … shirts and hats in particular. In one of the photos posted by SS, she is next to three other adults (one of whom is her mother, the blonde woman) as well as her grandmother … and an older gentleman. We’re not exactly sure who he is, but he could easily be a relative. People are hyper-focused on this man’s shirt, ostensibly a Blue Lives Matter shirt — which has been symbolized by a black and white flag and a blue stripe down the middle. Other photos and videos show attendees wearing red MAGA-style hats … with “Make Sixty Great Again” emblazoned across the front. Her brother, Trent, posted them — and made sure to note that that’s exactly what they said. But the fact that they are worn at all is criticized. Of course, there’s an incredible number of assumptions and speculations piling up about it — but it happens nonetheless. Some of Sweeney’s fans are actually expressing shock that her family seems to be somewhat right-wing — or possibly leaning that way, anyway.
