(Photo by Town of Change Islands.) Change Island residents are frustrated with the lack of communication they are getting from the city council about new development regulations. Two-thirds of the population signed a petition calling on the council to review the implementation of restrictions on the development of buildings such as businesses and structures used for fishing and logging activities. Longtime resident Heather White says residents don’t fully understand the terms of the bylaws, and despite multiple attempts, the township won’t address their concerns. He says he’s one of many residents who don’t understand the benefits of a municipal plan. White says the community has an advisory group for residents to voice their opinions on potential changes, but says it’s hard to recommend something when they don’t know what consequences might come from it.
