Police have cordoned off part of Ord Road Saturday morning near the City of Kamloops BMX track. UPDATE: 4:27 p.m The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit said a shooting that left one dead and another injured Friday night is believed to be a targeted incident and is being ruled a homicide. Police responded around 10:45 p.m. to Ord Road near Singh Street for a 911 call about two men who had been shot while inside a red Toyota Matrix. Residents of the neighborhood reported hearing multiple gunshots that night. RCMP said the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead a short time later, while the second victim was taken to hospital in stable condition. Several hours later, at around 2am, police were called to a vehicle on fire on Frontage Road in Rayleigh. Police are investigating whether the incidents are related, which is part of the ongoing investigation. “Although the investigation is in the very early stages, the homicide victim was known to police and it is believed the shooting was targeted,” Kamloops RCMP Inspector Jeff Pelley said in a news release. “It is vital that anyone with information comes forward as soon as possible to help officers establish what happened and who is responsible.” The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Service Unit, General Investigative Support Team and frontline officers are involved in the ongoing investigation. Police are asking anyone who witnessed or may have information about this incident, including security footage, cell phone or body camera video that may have captured anything suspicious, to contact Kamloops RCMP. UPDATE: 11:57 a.m Some residents who live near a crime scene on Ord Road report hearing multiple gunshots late Friday night. A section of the 1500 block of Ord Road is behind police tape Saturday with a Mountie standing guard. Police so far have not released any information about what happened, but several residents of the nearby Foothills Estates trailer park reported hearing gunshots around 11:00 p.m. Friday. “I heard about four shots,” said one man, who asked not to be named. “At first I thought it was fireworks and then I heard the police cars driving by.” The neighbor said he saw two vehicles pull up along Ord Street shortly before the apparent shooting. “It was about 10 minutes after that when I heard pop, pop, pop, pop,” he said. A short time later, the man said, police had blocked traffic on Ord Street. Three additional Foothills Estates residents also told Castanet they heard what sounded like multiple gunshots at about 11 p.m. This story will be updated if more information becomes known. The apparent crime scene is in the 1500-block of Ord Road, directly across from the City of Kamloops BMX track. At approximately 9:30, a police officer was on the scene. He said he cannot comment on what happened. In the police tape, broken glasses and discarded rubber gloves can be seen on the ground.
