EastEnders bosses have announced plans to pay tribute to Brown at the end of June in an upcoming storyline. Fans can expect “an emotional farewell” to June’s iconic soap character when news arrives that Dot Branning has sadly passed away. Dot has been living in Ireland since early 2020, but in scenes shown this winter, her funeral will take place in Walford in accordance with her last wishes. Dot’s friends and family will gather to say goodbye to the service, which has been described as “the mission she deserves so much”. BBC In real life, June Brown died in April 2022 at the age of 95. Her last appearance as Dot aired in January 2020. Speaking about the emotional new EastEnders storyline, executive producer Chris Clenshaw commented: “Everyone at EastEnders was truly heartbroken when June died earlier this year and, for quite some time, no one could even think about saying goodbye to Dot – an iconic character. that will go down in television history and be loved forever. “June was always adamant that she never wanted Dot’s time to end while she was still with us, but she also knew that EastEnders would rightly say goodbye to Dot when the time was right. “Unfortunately the time has come and we are determined to give the public, who have honored Dot for so many years, the fitting tribute she so deeply deserves. “So while it will be a very, very sad day in Walford, we will give Dot the send off she and June would have wanted and rightly deserved.” BBC Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at a press conference this week, Clenshaw added: “Dot is one of the most iconic characters in British TV history. What it will be is a fitting tribute. We’re working on it. as we speak. “It will be exactly what June, Dot and what the public deserves. “Since I’ve been here, the hardest day of my year was breaking the news to the cast and crew, to the whole company, that June had sadly passed away. “Some of the crew and cast had worked with June for many, many years. She’s more than just a colleague, she’s a dear friend, so it was difficult. But everyone always shares anecdotes. “I always loved going to her dressing room. You’d go down and talk about a scene, you’d have a few lines to talk that might be 30 seconds long, and you’d be there for three hours, chewing the fat. and it was great, it was great and we miss it so much. We are working on a very special tribute to her.” The funeral episode will air towards the end of the year. EastEnders airs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7.30pm. on BBC One.
