The former Olympic swimmer shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, posting a photo showing her lying in a hospital bed holding a cup of tea, with an IV line in the back of her arm. In her message, she said she and her husband, facilities manager Andy Parsons, discovered they had lost their baby during their 12-week scan. Adlington, 33, wrote: “On Tuesday myself and Andy went to hospital for our 12 week scan only to find out we had a miscarriage which led to emergency surgery. “I was able to leave the hospital on Thursday only to be readmitted on Friday. After a day of treating sepsis, a kidney infection and a fever, I’m slowly on the mend. I have a long way to go but I’m in the right place.” Thanking the hospital staff for their care, she continued: “It’s such a devastating time, but important in times like these to remember that we are not alone and have so much support.” Calling her husband “my rock,” she said: “We haven’t been able to process it all yet, but I know [friends and family’s] support we will overcome it”. She ended her message by saying that once she’s out of the hospital she’ll “go home and give my 2 little ones the best hugs!” Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley and Paralympian Ellie Simmonds were among the celebrities who offered messages of support. Adlington has two children, daughter Summer, seven, from her previous marriage to swimmer Harry Nitz, and son Albie, one, with husband Andy. She came sixth in the 13th series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2013 and worked as part of the BBC’s swimming event presentation team during the 2020 Summer Olympics.
