Officers Steven Merrick and Garrett Boyle responded to a call of a boat taking on water around 6:30 Wednesday afternoon near Graves Light Station, police said in a statement. Boston Police Department Boston police officers rescued the two men about 100 yards from shore of Graves Light in Boston Harbor.Boston Police Department / Facebook When they got closer, the officers saw only a small part of the Glory Days ship’s bow above the water, but as they got closer they saw the two men holding on to the blue cooler. “You could see the fear in their face,” Merrick said. “It was cold. They looked very tired and weak.” The dramatic rescue was caught on a police body camera. “We are so weak,” the younger man is heard saying. He then asked officers to rescue his 76-year-old father, who was wearing a life jacket. “Help him up please,” she said. “Help him up first.” The young man, who was holding a life jacket, was then pulled into the police boat by officers. The men said their boat’s 28-foot engine got tangled in lobster lines and failed. The current pushed the boat onto the rocks and punctured the hull, police said. The men were taken to shore, where EMS technicians treated them for minor injuries. Their boat was towed from the scene.
