By Wednesday, Chowdhury, an 18-year veteran of the department assigned to the Central Park area, was awake and no longer intubated, but still unable to speak. Chowdhury’s wife of 12 years, Nadira Sherin, had pleaded with police and city leaders to quickly arrest her husband’s assailants and not let them out on bail. “You can’t let these men out the same day they’re arrested,” Sherin told The Post Wednesday, referring to New York’s lenient bail reform law. “Punish them,” he added. “If they are released on the same day, that is not justice for my husband.” Sherin said she delivered a similar message to Mayor Eric Adams and Bronx District Attorney Darcell Clark when they visited Chounhoury in the hospital late Tuesday — telling them to “get [this case] seriously.”
