A perfectly timed blitz was an extra special proposition in Kelowna last week. Moments after they said yes, Alisa Hemming and her now-fiancé Liam Duncan were locked in an embrace atop Mount Knox when a bolt of lightning flashed behind them. It was captured perfectly by photographer Danika Camba. “It was very close, I had photographed before a lightning storm, but I had never seen it this close. There was a really huge burst of thunder,” Camba explained. “We were all freaked out because of the photo but also because of the lightning and thunder. We all ran from there and everyone was full of emotion.” Camba, who has been photographing couples professionally in the Okanagan and Lower Mainland since 2014, says it’s one of the most memorable experiences she’s had in her career and one the newly engaged couple will remember forever. “It’s special because it’s their engagement, but without the lightning it’s just a very classic Okanagan view with a couple. But from experience, I’d say it’s in the top three for sure, he said. Campa says Duncan was a little worried about the weather leading up to the proposal, but with family in town from all over the country to witness the couple’s special moment, he wasn’t going to cancel if he didn’t have to. Now he’s glad he stuck with the original plan. “They were ecstatic! They were obviously very excited, so it was very sweet to see so much joy,” Camba said. “Weather is not your worst enemy. Just enjoy it and embrace it because something always goes wrong and so you just have to go with the flow.” Kamba jokes that she has reached the peak of her photography career with this stunning photo, as it has been widely shared online.
