An outbreak of COVID-19 has been announced at Kootenay Lake Hospital
It is the second time in less than a month that COVID-19 has led to a hospital lockdown
An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at Kootenay Lake Hospital. Interior Health said Friday that five patients in the third-floor medical unit were infected. Currently only essential, palliative and end-of-life visits are allowed. It is the second outbreak in less than a month at Nelson Hospital. The third floor was also placed on lockdown on August 19, although at the time IH said there was no outbreak. Seventy-six percent of people aged five and over have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Nelson health region, which includes Salmo and parts of the Slocan Valley, as of July 31. Just 39 per cent of children aged five to 11 have received their first dose, but 80 per cent of those aged 18 and over have received two doses. Among West Kootenay health districts, Trail leads the region with 89 percent of people five years and older having received at least one dose of vaccine. Next are Castlegar (83), Grand Forks (80), Nelson (79), Arrow Lakes (79) and Creston (74).
