A man is in custody and facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting and threatening another person in Vernon’s Justice Park. Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the park in downtown Vernon for a report that a man in possession of a gun had attacked and threatened someone. “Multiple front line officers responded to the location and quickly located and arrested the suspect,” says Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terlesky.
Officers searched the man and seized two weapons in violation of court-ordered conditions that he did not possess. Brandon Allen Oppenheimer, 37, of Vernon, has been charged with multiple Penal Code offenses including assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and six counts of failure to comply with a probation order. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court later today.
