The United People of Canada failed to make three deposits totaling $100,000 by Aug. 10, according to an affidavit sworn by Patrick McDonald, the owner of St. Brigid’s Church.
I just received a set of court documents detailing the process of evicting the United People of Canada from St Bridget’s Church in Ottawa. They show TUPOC had a deal to buy the church for $5.95 million, but as we previously reported, the deal fell through #cdnpoli pic.twitter.com/jwHSAzLYIU — Mackenzie Gray (@Gray_Mackenzie) August 26, 2022 Court documents also include the Agreement of Purchase and Sale for St. Bridget’s Church, which shows that the United Peoples of Canada had agreed to buy the church for $5.95 million on June 8. McDonald’s affidavit also said that by not making the payments on the sale of the property, it also gave it the right to terminate the lease it had with The United People of Canada as of Sept. 10. A hearing is scheduled for September in an Ottawa courtroom to discuss the eviction issue. McDonald is seeking assistance from the Ottawa Sheriff’s Office to help enforce an eviction notice that was first posted on the front door of St. Brigid’s last week. That eviction notice said the group’s lease had been terminated due to $10,000 in unpaid rent and “failure to provide proof of at least $5 million in liability insurance.” A second notice posted on the door said the group was in violation of the Ontario Heritage Act and did not obtain the necessary permits for construction under the Ontario Building Code Act. CTV News previously reported that the Church of St. Brigid was conditionally sold to The United People of Canada on June 15, but as of August 12, property registration documents show the property was listed as “back on the market.” With files from CTV Ottawa.
