Ken’Adi Nash, of Hamilton, was taking out the trash when Deric McPherson, 33, also of Hamilton, allegedly tried to kidnap her Wednesday.
“This guy walked over and touched me and pulled me,” she told Good Morning America (GMA). “He just let me go because I screamed.”
After running inside, Ken’Adi told her parents that “some guy tried to kidnap me” and that he had touched her “private parts.”
McPherson has now been charged with kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.

The Nash family said they always taught their four daughters how to defend themselves against an attacker, but never thought the lessons would ever be needed.
‘He made [listen to us]and she used it,” Maddy’s mother told GMA. “I’m so proud of her, because as soon as she screamed, he let her go. So apparently, it works.’
Mandy was inside the house putting away groceries when the incident – which only lasted about 10 seconds – happened.
Her father Ricky took off in McPherson in his car while calling 911. He said, “I chased after him like he still had my child. [I] I certainly didn’t want him to go grab another kid.”
McPherson then tried to “dive in and out of alleys and people’s yards to get away from me,” Rickey told WLWT.
Police would eventually find McPherson inside a Dodge Caravan among cars in the Paul’s Auto lot, located on Erie Boulevard.
“When the cops handcuffed him, he took some of the agony away,” Ricky told GMA.
The family certainly won’t forget the terrifying situation, with Mandie telling GMA: ‘It’s forever etched in our minds – that scream. So he will always be with us.’
The family is now trying to move away from Hamilton, according to Mandie’s Facebook page, because Ken’Adi is “desperate to get out of this house/neighborhood [as soon as possible].’

The Nash family said they always taught their four daughters how to defend themselves against an attacker, but never thought the lessons would ever be needed.
Child Advocate for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Callahan Walsh, told GMA that Ken’Andy has done everything right.
“He was kicking, screaming, walking away. It’s exactly what we teach kids what to do when a would-be kidnapper tries to grab them,” Walsh said.
About 83 percent of children who have faced a potential abduction escaped by doing something “proactive,” such as kicking.
“He’s the reason she’s safe at home tonight,” he told GMA.

Walsh also recommends that parents talk to their kids about what to do in these situations sooner rather than later.
“Start with things like walking around your neighborhood, noting which houses your child could go to in an emergency, what their neighbors’ names are, what their parents’ full names are, what phone number and home address he has,” Walsh said.
“These are things you can teach your young children, the basics of child safety.”
