Chelsea reached an agreement with Leicester City on Friday night over a £70m plus deal for defender Wesley Fofana. After three failed attempts, the breakthrough came on Friday afternoon with Chelsea’s fourth bid and the clubs were finalizing the structure on Friday night. Fofana has provisionally agreed a six-year contract after insisting he only wanted to go to Chelsea. Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Leicester over a deal for Wesley Fofana The 21-year-old made it clear to Leicester last week that he believed he was being punished by a move as they sought a world-record £85m for a defender. Manager Brendan Rodgers revealed that he had kicked Fofana out to train with the club’s U23s this week after he failed to turn up for first-team training and was not considered for today’s clash with Chelsea. Fofana joined Leicester for £36.5m from St Etienne in 2020 and has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that Fofana is his number one target for the Chelsea defence He has emerged as Thomas Tuchel’s first choice in defense after Chelsea lost Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt. His signing will be a major boost for the German coach who pushed owner Todd Boehly to bring in top-quality signings after losing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger at the end of last season. Tuchel is now hoping to seal a deal for Barcelona striker Pierre Aubameyang, while he also wants Everton’s Anthony Gordon and another midfielder. Fofana’s arrival could now pave the way for defender Trevor Chalobah to leave on loan with Italian sides AC Milan, Inter and Roma all making enquiries. His signing will complete one of the signings of the summer with Tuchel believing the centre-back can help Chelsea mount a serious challenge to Liverpool and Manchester City. Fofana is set to replace Harry Maguire (who cost £80m) as the world’s most expensive defender Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is unhappy with Fofana’s behaviour
