Environment Canada initially issued a tornado warning for Halton Hills and Milton around 3:30 p.m., warning of a storm that could produce a twister.
The warning ended just before 4pm and was replaced by a severe thunderstorm warning. It was later downgraded to a watch before ending around 8:20 p.m
Meanwhile, Peel Region, Toronto and some areas in York Region were under severe storm conditions.
Environment Canada said a storm that could bring strong winds, pea-sized hail and heavy rain was moving through the region.
He noted that many areas could see up to 50mm of rain. All weather warnings were lifted before 8.30pm
Meanwhile, the Toronto and District Conservation Authority has issued a water safety warning because of the storm.
“Due to the rainfall received this morning and total rainfall expected, all rivers within the GTA may experience higher flows and water levels,” the TRCA said in its advisory.
“Conditions along watercourses may change rapidly due to heavy rainfall in a short period of time. The combination of slippery and unstable banks and rising water levels could create dangerous conditions near rivers or other bodies of water.”
For the rest of the evening, it will be mostly cloudy in Toronto with a 30 percent chance of showers. Environment Canada said there is a risk of thunderstorms in the evening and after midnight.
Clouds continue on Friday with a high of 23 degrees Celsius and a risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon. For the weekend, it will be clear in the city with a temperature of 24 degrees on Saturday and 28 degrees on Sunday.
