Dutch newspaper Telegraaf suggests that Verstappen will be “punished” and use a new engine, his fourth of the season, which takes him over the limit. Verstappen’s newest engine is just one race old, having been introduced after qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, making the decision a surprise. But Red Bull believe it would be tactical to add a fourth engine to their arsenal for the rest of the season at Spa-Francorchamps. It is also claimed that Verstappen will get a new gearbox. Various reports suggest Ferrari star Leclerc will start at the back of the grid as his team have reliability concerns despite having four weeks to overcome their current woes. Luigi Fraboni, head of Ferrari’s power unit and electronics, warned: “Spa-Francorchamps is very tough on the power unit in terms of reliability. It is the longest circuit on the calendar and usually, the distances covered during of the weekend is among the highest. “There are very long straights that stress all the components and therefore require specific evaluation on the test bench. In terms of performance, along with Monza, this is the track where engine power has the biggest impact on lap time and handling energy also has a significant impact on the final result, especially in qualifying.” Verstappen has an 80-point lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship and any penalty fears will be eased by main title rival Leclerc also starting from the back. However, the 24-year-old is not taking his position for granted. “I think it would be a mistake to relax,” Verstappen said. “So many things can still go wrong, or they can still go right. I think the intention for us is to want to win more games this season. This is how we approach the rest of the matches. Not only are we winning but we want to be consistent, we don’t want to retire. We had our little problems in the beginning, but we will see how competitive we are. “It’s not allowed. This can happen when you stop fighting. If that’s the case, then it’s also time to stop fighting because you don’t want it enough anymore.” If Verstappen and Leclerc take penalties then Lewis Hamilton is sure to secure his first win of the season. “We’re building on that consistency from recent games and the great progress the team is making,” he said. “All together and continuing to push, the car is more of a racing car which is not particularly what it was at the start of the year. “It’s more like a race car in its characteristics, which is a positive thing.”
