Cannabis shops in Kelowna are starting to feel the impact of the BC General Employees Union targeting liquor and cannabis dispensaries. Lee Schurian, owner of High Score Cannabis and Hemp City on Bernard Avenue, says this is a huge blow to the legal industry that has worked very hard to get to where it is today. “We’re just trying to create safe and legal access to cannabis for a lot of people, and right now, people are having a hard time finding it. We can’t order anything right now… luckily our shelves have been pretty full and we’re still doing it OK, but if this continues for any longer, we will definitely run out of product,” Schurian explained. Tarek Shbib, owner of Spiritleaf Kelowna, echoed this. “Due to the BCGEU strike and the monopolistic government distribution system, the entire legal cannabis industry is poised for collapse. Retail cannabis stores will continue to close and consumers will be left without access to legal cannabis, fueling the black market and forcing law enforcement Canadians to break the law to get cannabis,” Shbib said.
