Around noon on August 24th, York Regional Police responded to the mall at 1 Bass Pro Mills Dr in Vaughan after a report of a sexual assault. The victim, 27, was shopping with her children when a man approached her and started talking to her. The man then took a photo of the victim and her children. He then grabbed the woman and touched her “in a sexual manner,” according to the YRP. Either the victim or her children were physically injured in the incident. The police immediately launched an investigation and soon found a suspect. YRP arrested Sunilbhai Modi, 57, of Brampton, and charged him with sexual assault. Police are investigating if there are any other victims and are asking anyone who may be out there to come forward. “Sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who believes they may have been the victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident,” investigators said. The YRP stressed, “There is no statute of limitations for sexual offenses and offenders can be prosecuted long after the date of the offence.” Anyone with information leading to the investigation or who wishes to report a different assault can call York Police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7441 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.25 insauga Editorial Standards and Policies
