A man walked into one of the banks near Derry Rd W and McLaughlin Rd, an area where there are shopping plazas with Royal Bank and Bank of Montreal, around 2 p.m. on August 22. The robber then handed a handwritten note demanding cash to a bank teller. The teller followed the instructions on the note and handed over an undetermined amount of cash. The robber then left the bank and fled the area on foot. Peel Regional Police launched a “thorough” investigation and canvassed the area. During the search they found discarded items left behind by the robber. Investigators used the evidence collected to identify a suspect. They located the man at a local hotel on August 23rd. He was driving a gray car of unknown make and model at the time. The man, Thamiran Amirthaganesan, 30, of Mississauga, was charged with robbery and wearing a disguise. Amirthaganesan appeared to be in custody until a bail hearing on August 25. Anyone with information related to the investigation can call Peel Regional Police at (905)-453-2121 ext. 3410 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). insauga Editorial Standards and Policies
