DON’T MISS: Waterproof lenses for emergencies and everyday use
Thursday through Friday: The week ends with storms, a threat of heavy rain
Forecasters expect a moisture-laden low pressure system to develop over the southern Great Lakes during the day Thursday. This nascent system will provide the kick needed to spark storms in southern Ontario. We will see thunderstorms form in the southern half of Ontario with the heat of the day. The risk for thunderstorms will shift into the greater Toronto area later during the evening commute, continuing east into the early night hours. While the outlook is not favorable for widespread severe weather, some of the storms developing in Ontario could bring the risk of strong winds and small hail. There is plenty of tropical moisture aloft for these storms to tap into, leading to the potential for heavy rain in storms that hang in one spot for too long. Watch out for localized flooding if you get caught in one of these slow downpours. PHOTOS: GTA narrowly escapes potentially catastrophic flooding, 250+mm reported nearby Friday will see the risk shift east as the low pressure system heads toward Quebec and the New England states. Instability will build along the track of the low as it heads through eastern Ontario and southern Quebec, shifting the risk for thunderstorms into the National Capital Region and metro Montreal area. Increased tropical moisture will lead to heavier rainfall beneath some of the storms on Friday, but upper-level winds will help them move along instead of staying in one spot.
Great weather for the last weekend in August
A great weekend is underway behind the storms. Seasonal and less humid air will push into Ontario and Quebec by Saturday, bringing a respite from the stickiness of late August — if only for a while. Saturday will see high temperatures in the low to mid 20s across much of southern Ontario and Quebec, with comfortable humidity levels making for a pleasant day for those with outdoor plans. Temperatures will rise above seasonal values on Sunday as heat and humidity begin to return, but the end of the weekend will still be fairly pleasant across the region.
