A West Kelowna resident is more than $1 million richer after a $5.25 bet on a Powerbucks slot machine at Playtime Casino Kelowna. Joshua Alexander, 29, had only been in the casino for 20 minutes when he won a staggering jackpot of $1,032,361.83 on July 29, 2022. Alexander was playing next to his cousin, with his girlfriend looking on when the win happened. “He started freaking out and I thought it was a prank or something,” he said. “My cousin thought I broke the machine.” The game is one of two Powerbucks-linked slots at Playtime Casino Kelowna that offer players a chance to trigger bonuses and win cash or even the progressive jackpot, which starts at $1 million and grows as players wager at participating BC and Canadian casinos. Alexander said the decision to go to Playtime Casino Kelowna for a night of fun was his dad’s idea. “She wanted to go, so I was sure, and my girlfriend and cousin came with us. It was an anxious night for us after we got home, our minds were blown.’ Alexander says the first thing he’s going to do with the money is buy his dad a truck.
