The shooting occurred at the corner of O Street NW and North Capitol Street, just north of New York Avenue in the Truxton Circle neighborhood. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene and three men were taken to hospital themselves. Executive Assistant Chief Ashan Benedict described the area as an “outdoor drug market” that police regularly patrol. The shooting occurred at the corner of O Street NW and N. Capitol Street, just north of New York Avenue. According to police, the first call for help came from three members of the D.C. Fire Department who happened to be on the block inspecting buildings. The tent is located on a vibrant neighborhood block near the So Others Might Eat homeless outreach program and a bilingual charter school. Parents are seen picking up students around 2 p.m Police cordoned off the area to investigate. It was not immediately known if they have a suspect. Police obtained video from a Tesla whose cameras captured the shooting from multiple angles. Several streets were closed around the scene of the shooting, police said: First Street NW between O and P streets and the 1300 block of N. Capital Street. Police have cordoned off the area while they investigate. Overnight, another fatal shooting occurred about half a block away. In that incident, a 25-year-old man was killed and a woman was injured at Florida Avenue and N. Capitol Street. It was not known if these shootings may be related. So far this year, 136 people have lost their lives in homicides in the District, compared with 131 people at the same time last year, according to Metropolitan Police figures.
