Irdeto today issued a press release about its Nintendo Switch Emulator protection solution, appealing to developers and publishers who might be interested in including it in their games. In its statement, Irdeto is targeting not only first- and second-party Switch games, but also PC game ports. “Nintendo consoles have long suffered from piracy issues and the Switch is no different,” the company wrote. “Even if a game is protected against piracy in its PC version, the version released on Switch can be emulated from day one and played on PC, thus bypassing the strong protections offered in the PC version.” Eurogamer Newscast: What does Embracer’s Lord of the Rings acquisition mean for Middle-earth games? The announcement has not gone well. Irdeto’s official tweet about the news goes analog (an easy sign of when something isn’t popular), with many replies mentioning the effects Denuvo might have on performance, like with Resident Evil Village last year – especially in a console that may already struggle in the performance department. To be clear, this isn’t something Nintendo has worked with Irdeto on, so it’s unknown how many publishers will choose to include it. Although I can imagine Monolith Soft wishing it was available for Xenoblade Chronicles 3. You can read Irdeto’s full statement on their official website.
