Dawn Walker and her seven-year-old son were found safe in Oregon on August 5 after being reported missing on July 24 in Saskatchewan.

In Canada, Walker faces charges of kidnapping in violation of a custody order and public disorder. In the US, Walker is charged with a felony related to “false statements” when using a passport that identifies another person. He is also charged with misdemeanor possession of an identification document that has been stolen or produced without lawful authority. Story continues below ad During a hearing in Portland, Ore., on Tuesday to discuss the next steps in the case, Walker agreed to waive a formal extradition process, which can be considered lengthy. Scott Kerin, Assistant US Attorney for the District of Oregon, told the court that Walker’s return to Canada is in the best interests of both countries. Walker will be released into the custody of Homeland Security who will take her to the border to be released into the custody of Canadian law enforcement.

Kerin said the US will monitor the proceedings against Walker in Canada and follow up with US charges as necessary. Both the prosecution and the defense agreed to Walker’s release back to Canada.
